What Has Your Body Done For You Lately?

"You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have
and are grateful for, the more will be given you. "
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach ~ (Simple Abundance)

“You don't get to choose how you're going to die. Or when.
You can only decide how you're going to live. Now." ~Joan Baez.

So often we see our bodies as objects to be adorned or altered. And often we do this to meet the standards of someone or something out there that tells us what we should look like. Then if you don’t meet the standards, you end up feeling badly about yourself.

But there is another aspect of the body that most of us do not pay attention to—when you focus on what your body LOOKS like, you’re not paying attention to what your body DOES.

You forget that it is because of the body that you can walk along a rushing creek, hug a child or significant other, smell the gardenias that signal summer is right around the corner, hear the birds singing in the early morning, see a beautiful clear blue sky and feel the gentle breeze caress your skin.

You forget that the body performs incredible, intricate functions every single day. Because of our bodies, you can read, write and make music; you can fight infection and heal injuries; you can digest food and use it to keep healthy; you can bear children, and you can relish in the beauty of the sun setting over the ocean.

Next time you feel your body does not measure up, consider what it has done for you lately!

Start small by creating a new ritual. When you brush your teeth in the morning, name aloud one functional thing for which you appreciate your body. When you brush your teeth at the end of the day, recall one thing that your body did for you that day that you appreciate.

Small steps add up, and gratitude goes a long way towards helping to change our outlook in life. This one ritual can reap significant rewards
